Make Windows XP Permanently Genuine In 5 Minutes

I am only posting this as a guide for persons who have an OEM version
of Windows XP Professional that came with their PC, and don't have a
copy of the CD, lost the CD or their serial Number has been compromised, and Microsoft Genuine Advantage website reports it as not genuine.
This happens in many cases where generic PC manufacturers use
volume licenses for the Windows XP version they install on the
PC or use the same Installation on multiple PCs they sell to you.
I am in no way sanctioning piracy of software.
Also as the old disclaimer goes, this is strictly for educational purposes only and I am in no way responsible for how any individual or group uses this information.
The process takes only about 5 minutes excluding download time for the software.
1. Download MGADiag.exe from Microsoft's website for the main purpose of testing after all the steps that your copy of Windows XP is genuine.
2. Download WGAPluginInstall.exe form Microsoft's web site
3. Make sure that after installation you delete or rename the data.dat file in the Windows Genuine Advantage folder.
You can find the file in the location C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Windows Genuine Advantage\data where C: is drive of the Windows XP installation.
4. Next go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\ directory, and you will find the 'hosts' file, open it using Notepad or any other text editor and add the line below to the end of the file.
127.0.0.1 mpa.one.microsoft.com
5. Run MGAdiag.exe to see if your copy of Windows XP is now genuine.
*Please Note I have only tested this on Windows XP Professional with
Service Pack 2 installed.

Someone,somehow gets access to your hosting account and injects malicious code into your site that tries to compromise the experience of visitors to your site. Maybe its not even you but someone else who hosts with the same company which brings your web host into disrepute.

How do you find out?

Maybe you've had a complaint from a visitor, maybe your browser warns you your own website is not a safe site (or) you can periodically check from here :

where you replace yoursite.com with the web address of your website.

On finding a web page that is 'delicious' to you first bookmark it and then upload the bookmarks to delicious so you can share them with friends.

Your bookmarks can be categorized using tags. When you display a tag cloud the size of a tag denotes the number of your bookmarks associated with it. This gives an immediate indication to your viewers the subjects that you are most interested in.

Microsoft Live is Now Bing - Much Better Than Expected.

Microsoft on Thursday took the wraps off Bing, the rebranded and rebuilt search engine formerly code-named Kumo, designed to replace Live Search. It's a solid improvement over the previous search product, and it beats Google in important areas. It will help Microsoft gain share in the search business. It's surprisingly competitive with Google.

In search presentation, Bing wins. It uses technology from Powerset (a search technology company Microsoft acquired) to display refined versions of your query down the left side of the page. For example, I searched for the game "Blog" on Google and Bing. While Google gave me good results, Bing gave me a menu of "related searches," that included Walkthrough, News, and so on.

Bing also pop ups an excerpt of the text on a search result if you hover over it. This saves a lot of time if you're not quite sure if you want to follow a result.

For most of those publishers that have been banned I would be willing to bet that it is because you clicked on your own ads. I now that it is tempting to click on your own ads after you go months with out seeing any earnings in your Adsense account. Note taking meant writing on paper, study groups meant face-to-face meetings, and if you were struggling through Shakespeare, your best bet was to turn to the library, not the Internet.

Well, okay, it was a just a few years ago, but just in this decade, and especially in the last few years, a handful of tools to make school life easier have appeared. What follows is the set of web tools I would put in my backpack were I headed back to school tomorrow.

Office Replacements

There’s no software package I used more in college (or today, for that matter) than Microsoft Office. 5 years ago the alternative was Sun’s OpenOffice.org suite, Corel’s Wordperfect (still not free), or a handful of even less developed offline tools. But now there are a large number of impressive web apps that can handle your academic needs. The cream of the crop are below.

Google Docs & Spreadsheets - One of the more developed online office tools, Google offers a word processor, spreadsheet and presentation.
Zoho Office Suite - Zoho is one of the most complete online office suites, offering more tools than you’ll even find in Microsoft Office’s student and teacher version.
gOFFICE - No frills gOFFICE has a very familiar look and feel.
ThinkFree - ThinkFree can replace Word, Excel, and Powerpoint with its suite of online apps, and they offer downloadable versions of their software as well.
EditGrid - EditGrid only does spreadsheets, but does them very well.

Notetaking

More and more students are bringing laptops to class. Owning a laptop is a requirement for all first-year undergraduates at the University of Denver, for example. The proliferation of portable computers means that note taking doesn’t have to happen with a pad and pen. The following web apps will help you take and organize your notes.

Mind Mapping

Now you have your notes, you need to put them together. The following mind mapping/flow charting tools will help you get your thoughts in order so you can go from raw notes to polished dissertation.

So you’ve got your notes, and you have them all mapped out and organized, but you still need to fill in some blanks. There are a number of online study aids that exist to help you find the answers you need.

SparkNotes - SparkNotes are (mostly) free, online CliffsNotes for a large number of books. They also do test prep, mathematics, science and a number of other subjects. Of course they can’t really substitute for actually reading a book, but they can help you if you’re having trouble figuring out Emily Bronte. (And it turns out that many CliffsNotes are now online for free as well!)
Google News - Google News, especially with their new archive search, can be an invaluable research tool if you’re researching a recent historical or current event.
College-Cram.com - Free online study guides for science, math, language, and business topics.
Tutorlinker.com - When all else fails, hire a tutor.

Bookmarking

With all that online studying you need a way to keep track of what you’ve read. Online bookmarking tools are a great way to do just that.

del.icio.us - There are a large number of social bookmarking apps, but del.icio.us is king among them. If you don’t like it, try Furl, Ma.gnolia, or Blinklist.
Clipmarks - Save just a selection of a site. Don’t like Clipmarks? Try Web-Chops.
Wizlite - Highlight text in online documents the way you would in a text book. Don’t like Wizlite? Try i-Lighter.

Collaboration

Why study alone when you can get help from a friend? There is power in numbers.

Facebook - The quintessential college network can be used for more than just planning parties and dating. Facebook can be used to keep in touch with classmates, share and discuss notes, and create study groups.

Conclusion

While I don’t think there’s really a substitute for face-to-face learning, the online classroom continues to evolve in amazing ways. Students today have a host of web apps at their finger tips that can truly facilitate a better learning environment.

Disabling unnecessary programs that load when Windows starts up

For this tip, we will use MSCONFIG to decrease loading program while the Windows Xp starts up. Some programs can be excluded to speed up your computer. Ok, let you begin now.

Click Start > Run and type msconfig then press Enter. the Windows Xp will bring you to the System Configuration Utility window.
In the Startup tab, you can see the list of programs that are loading when you boot your computer.
Uncheck the Startup Items which is the unnecessary programs. For example, Winamp Agent, Real tray, Office startup, Adobe Reader speed launch. If you are not sure whether the programs are necessary or not, keep it check the box. Remember that you must uncheck only the programs that you recognize and do not want them to load every time at startup.
After finish unchecking the unnecessary programs, then click OK and restart your computer.

But unlike people you can actually turn back the aging process and bring your beloved PC back to life. All it takes is a couple of easy to follow tips to ignite your PC’s performance to full speed again.

Just follow these easy to follow steps:

System configuration utility:
Even when your computer’s sat there doing nothing it could be running at least 50 programs! These are programs that a munching away at your poor old CPU and not to mention having a right good go at your memory as well. The reason for this is because over time the more stuff you install the more crap that builds up and even if you don’t even use that program, there’s a damn good chance that it’s running in the background.

To see what I mean hit CTRL +ALT + DELETE then press the processes tab. It will show you how many processes that are running in the background.

1. To solve this little dilemma just go the Start or Run for XP owners, and type MSCONFIG.

2. The System configuration will appear and from in there go to the STARTUP tab.

3. Once you’ve selected the STARTUP tab you’ll be presented all the programs that are running in the background of your PC. What I would recommend is turning everything off apart from your anti virus.

If you do see anything what you do want on for example MSN massager by all means keep it on but the more you have running in the background the more it’ll sap your PC’s performance and will also affect you’re your Boot times as well.

System configuration utility part 2
Now still hanging around in the System Configuration Utility, go to the second tab called SERVICES and go to and untick the HIDE ALL MICROSOFT SERVICES. We’ve got to do this (unless you’re a bit more experienced) because if you go and turn one of Microsoft’s services you could just mess your entire PC up and we don’t want that do we.

Once you’ve unticked the box you should be just left with all the non Microsoft services.

once again I would recommend to turn them all off but the anti viruses services. Once you’ve decided what and what not gets the chop click apply and you’re done.

Performance Options
Depending on which OS (operating system) your using, this could make or brake it. If your using Windows Vista? I would recommend turning some the visual effects of especially on the lower end systems. However if your using XP, the performance will be less impressive but I believe every ounce of performance is crucial. Besides, you won’t even notice half of these switched of anyway.

Now as much as I would love to tell you how to get to these options, the ways to get there are very different when compared to Vista and XP. So a way around this (and probably a cop out as well) I’ll just tell the vista owners to type in PERFORMANCE into the search bar, select PERFORMANCE INFORMATION AND TOOLS and click ADJUST VISUAL EFFECTS and you’ll find your way there.

For XP owners read on:

1. Go to Start, Control Panel and select PERFORMANCE AND MAINTENANCE.

2. Then ADJUST VISUAL EFFECTS you should find yourself there.

Now I would recommend turning them all off barring the last one. The last one keeps the modern Windows feel which I personally like but hay, everyone’s different.

Uninstalling
A fast Hardrive is a empty hardrive. So if you’ve got an hardrive full to the brim, delete the programs and games you don’t need to speed up your Hardrive and watch those boot times fly!

Tip: If you’re a gamer (like me) What you can do is save the save game file and uninstall the full game. This way you can get the wanted gigs of space back but not lose your place on Crysis. Cool eh.

Slow Computer - 7 Easy Ways to Speed it Up

When your computer was new it ran smoothly at top speed. The actual speed of course depends on the speed of your computer chip,amount of memory and various other things which relate directly to the components of your machine. A computer with a Celeron chip or equivalent will run slower than one with the latest dual core processor. If you want a really fast computer you will have to spend a bit more money for the right components.

This being said there are many other factors which influence the speed at which your computer surfs and runs programs.

(1.) If your computer boots slowly it is likely due to a large number of programs in your start menu. You should take a look at what is in there and remove programs which you do not often use at startup. You don’t have to delete them from the computer. Just take them out of the start menu and you can easily access them when you need them.

(2.) If you have seldom or never used programs on your hard drive get rid of them. Uninstall them completely,don’t just delete them. This can free up quite a bit of hard drive space which will help the computer to run faster.

(3.) If you have not defragmented you hard drive for some time do it now. This alone often results in noticeably better performance.

(4.) Remove temporary files and cookies. These items will greatly slow down your machine. Do this regularly and you will see a difference in performance of your computer.

(5.) Permanently delete all deleted emails and older sent and received emails you do not need. If you have not done this in a long time it will surprise you how much disk space you can free up.

(6.) If you have insufficient memory in your machine you should upgrade by adding some more. A minimum of 1 gigabyte of ram is needed to handle a lot of programs.

(7.) If your registry is overloaded this is the most likely cause of slow running and freezing. Your computer registry is a database used by all windows operated computers to run the computer and programs. Over time it becomes choked with many fragments of programs and other data. The operating system must find it’s way through all this unwanted registry material to locate the data it uses to run the machine. This causes slow running,freezing and even crashing. All windows operated computers suffer from this problem. Only one thing can be done to correct it and that is to clean the registry of all the useless entries.

If you have sufficient computer knowledge you may be able to clean the registry manually yourself. However make one error and you may disable the computer by removing an essential entry. You may then have to reinstall the operating system. This obviously is to be avoided as you will lose all the material you have in the computer.

Notebook Purchasing - A Few Tips

Everyone has a notebook or a laptop now. Before embarking on a notebook buying agenda, however, a few pointers will help you in the right direction. The first thing to decide is on the size of the screen. Generally speaking, notebooks which are thin and light will have 11“ to 13“ display screens. Sometimes they may be 14“ but that will come in the category of main laptops.

The usual notebooks do not have an optical drive as the drive takes up more space, carries more weight and consumes more power. Battery life for these notebooks is usually 5 to 8 hours. The larger screen notebooks have a 14“ to 15“ wide screen displays and some even have a 17“ display screen almost encroaching on the desktop replacement category. The thin and light ones weigh 5lbs or less while the heavier ones vary from 5lbs to 9lbs.

Most thin and light notebooks will have 1GB of memory but this renders the notebook just about functional. later on it is possible to upgrade it to 2GB later on your own. However, you have to make sure that the notebook has a 1 GB module already installed along with a free memory bay.

Sometimes to cut cost, these laptops will have two 512MB modules installed which would entail purchasing two 1GB modules and replacing the 512MB ones. This becomes quite expensive. The 512Mb modules are still available but they will make even the most tasks very slow. Also, you have to be technically able to open up your laptop to install the module. Therefore, it makes more sense to go in for a 2 GB one straightaway even tough it may cost a bit more.

Thin and light notebooks have dual core processors which are power-efficient. This means that they will not operate at the fastest rate possible to save power. A core2 duo T-series processor is there in most mainstream and desktop replacement laptops. This, though more expensive than the AMD Turion processor offers better value for money.

While choosing a notebook, there is no need to be picky about the hard drive but it should have enough space for your storage needs. Laptop hard drives usually max out at 200GB which is more than sufficient for most users but there are a few laptops having two hard drive bays accommodating up to 400GB storage.

As far as graphics are concerned, it really depends upon the user of the notebook. Some laptops offer integrated cards which are power-efficient. These are not too powerful and can barely function as DVD playback. The thin and light ones normally have this card. Some may be better for media playback and the occasional gaming but they are not suitable for long term gaming.

With the exception of a few laptops, most of the notebooks come equipped with an optical drive. The normal choice for such a drive is the DVDRW type which can burn discs and movies and create backups.

The operating system comes with Vista though XP is still being offered by some companies. If using XP, a 512 MB is absolutely imperative, if 1GB cannot be got. Regarding Vista, a 1GB is a must though a 2GB is naturally the preferred memory.

Notebooks are constantly being upgraded and there are laptops offering biometric security features which are especially useful for business travelers. Buying a notebook need not be a daunting job if the concepts are clear.

404 Errors : (Cause and description)

We've all received an error like the one shown below:

File not found - requested URL not found on this server

It's annoying, especially when you've searched for something and found what looks like the perfect site. At least the description exactly matches your needs. You click and boom, a 404 error appears. Whoops. What happened to that perfect site?

There are several reasons why this error occurs. I guess the thing that you need to remember is the internet is very fluid. In fact, it changes constantly. Sometimes a site is changing while you are looking at it. I can remember several times I was examining a site and returned to a page that I had seen only moments before and found it to be different! That can be very unnerving, to say the least.

So what sometimes happens is a webmaster changes his site around and obsoletes links. If he's a rank amateur, he'll break links within his own site. This does happen sometimes, but any webmaster worth his salt is constantly checking and rechecking his site to be sure it works and works well. After all, the only way to test something is to use it. And the only way to see if a site really works is to surf it.

More often, someone has linked to a site and that site changes. Since it can be difficult if not impossible to determine who has linked to a site, links break.

Now, really good webmasters never ever delete a page on their site. What they do is create redirect pages. Thus, if I have a page called "barbi.htm" and I want to delete it, I will modify the page to tell the visitor it no longer exists and redirect him to another page in my site. This way I will not lose traffic simply because I've deleted or renamed a page.

This constant checking of one's own web site will also catch another common error: misspelling a hyperlink. When I create a hyperlink, I either browse to the target using my web editor, or I cut and paste the link directly out of Internet Explorer. I never type the hyperlink in myself, which reduces the possibility of error greatly!

Also common is the webmaster who does not understand that many servers are case sensitive. This means that "Richard" is not the same as "richard". You will see this sometimes if a webmaster moves a site from a server which is not case sensitive (VAX/OpenVMS) to one that is (Unix).

Sometimes a site simply moves to another host. This frequently happens when a site outgrows it's host. I know of one site that had to move several times because it's bandwidth demands became huge! According to the webmaster this site was getting tens of thousands of visitors every day, and all of them were downloading tremendous amounts of pictures. He was booted off one server with no notice and no backup and had to rebuild his site from scratch! This kind of event will certainly cause 404 errors!

More rarely, a webmaster has been in the process of uploading his site when his upload software crashed. This may leave broken links for a short time until the problem is fixed.

Generally an ISP will provide, at least for a short time, a redirect page to a new site. You will see this as a "My site has moved. If you are not transported in 10 seconds click here" message.

And of course some sites simply shut down. This is actually getting more rare as it's often more expensive for an ISP to delete old data than it is simply to prevent updates.

Search engines are notorious for their broken links. You have to remember that most search engines only examine web sites every month or so (sometimes the delay is as long as six months). Because of this, all of the above problems can occur, leaving broken links.

Still thinking to cheat AdSense? Stop that. It will never bring you anywhere. You might pull it off with smaller ads network, but definitely not with Google. Here are some detection methods they might use. At the very least, they have the resources to do so.

IP Address
If the AdSense click is originated from the same IP Address as the one used for accessing your AdSense account, your account is flagged.

Cookies
Most home users do not use static IP Address for Internet connection. In most cases just disconnect and reconnect will give you a new IP Address. But don’t forget, Google has set cookies on your computer.

Other Google Services
Thinking that you are safe just because you do not access your AdSense account? Think again. This time, consider these: GMail, Google Earth, Google Calendar, Google Search, Google Toolbar, Google Talk, Google Sitemap, Google Desktop, Blogger, and so on, and so on. With the wide range of services they provide, Google can trace the originator of most (or probably almost all) clicks.

Your website is not indexed on any search engine, not linked by any prominent website, but get consistently high traffic? That sounds like something is in play. How about the “click here” or “support us”? Google has the best search engine in the world. Is it really that hard to find those words?

We are going to use Gmail’s Mail Fetcher to achieve this goal.

Note:
(a) Make sure to ENABLE POP in your second Gmail account which will be accessed from the Main Gmail.
(b) If you are an advanced user or if you have tried this feature with no success then jump to 5th point directly.
(c) You can add up to 5 other gmail accounts by repeating these same steps.
(d) If you have too many messages on each of those accounts then it will take a good amount of time for your Main Gmail to retrieve all of messages from other account. For me it took 10 minutes - 144 messages.
(e) You can only retrieve messages from Hotmail, Yahoo to your Gmail, If you are using Paid accounts of those portal mailboxes. As POP3 support is only available to paid accounts.

1. Log into your Main Gmail account [ You will be able to check/view all messages of different accounts from this account ]

2. Click on Settings [ Top right ]

3. Click on Accounts [ Under Settings - Accounts ]
Click Add another mail account [ Also called Google Mail Fetcher ]

The new voice-activated Google Mobile app for the iPhone is finally here. Whatever the reason for the delay, it was worth the wait.The search app knows when you bring the phone to your face to speak into it. It beeps, you talk, and it executes a Google search on what you said. (If you’re using a headset, you have to press a button. You can type in your queries, too, if you want.)

It is freakishly accurate. It’s not perfect, but it’s extremely good. Good enough to be used frequently, I’d say, although this review is based on only 15 minutes of experimentation.

I searched for names of people I knew, businesses nearby, airline information, and other miscellaneous data. The service bungled one nearby restaurant, but got everything else right. It uses the phone’s location data to narrow down results. Try searching for “sushi” and you’ll get your closest sushi restaurants at the top of your search results.

The Google Mobile app gives you its answers in text, which makes for a very quick experience. If your result returns phone numbers, you can dial the phone by clicking on one. But if you’re driving in your car and need a quick connection, use Goog411 instead, which is a full voice-in, voice-out experience.

As others have noted, Google Mobile doesn’t let you do voice dialing from your own contact list. It’s frustrating to be able to search the entire Web with your voice but not be able to search your own phone. But it’s still a useful and very cool little service.

How I Generate Traffic To My Blog - Part 2

It’s the dream of every blogger to get a lot of traffic, but something first time bloggers often don’t realize is that just publishing a few posts will not get them regular readers. I am no expert in getting traffic, but I have been working on a few things which has increased my traffic a lot.

When I first started this blog I used to get only about 10-20 visitors a day. After the first few months, I started getting traffic from Google and other traffic engines and my unique visitors increased to about 100 a day. Now for the past few weeks I have been getting about 550 visitors a day.

The sudden increase in traffic I had from about 100-500 visitors was mainly because my recent posts were linked back from many sites. So yes, linking can get you traffic depending on which sites link to you. Links can be thought of as the currency of blogs.

I received a lot of emails (even while writing this) from bloggers asking how they can get more traffic, I hope this helps…

Blog Design

A good design won’t bring you traffic but it will get your visitors to stay longer. No one will stay on your blog too long if the layout or navigation annoys them. So the first thing to do is to select a good theme for your blog and then design your own header. The goal is to have a unique blog that stands out from all other blogs (making your visitors want to come back again and again).

Often bloggers select a theme and forget about the design. The problem here is that your blog will look similar to hundreds of blogs that use the same theme.

Your design should allow your visitors to access the main pages of your blog and to contact you easily. Your blog should have an about page and an author photo. The more a reader knows about you, the more they trust your content. You can find more info on this on john's recent post - Common Weblogging Mistakes.

Quality Content

Your blog should have good content inorder to keep your visitors coming back. By good content I mean well written posts that are unique and useful at the same time. Writing original content is definitely the key.

Do not copy-paste contents directly from other blogs to your blog. Re-blogging is a bad thing and will kill your traffic. The solution here is to write that content in your own words adding your own unique ideas to it. And don’t forget to link to the original post.

The more engaged you are with your content, the more interesting it will be.

Get Links

The more links you have the more traffic you get. Like I said before links are the currency of blogs. So how do you go about getting links to your blog?

Well written posts are often linked back by many sites. You are lucky if you get linked by heavily trafficked sites.

Another way is to get links from other bloggers. Link to their blogs and ask them politely to do the same for you. Also visit the ‘links’ section of a blog (if they have one) and check for a link exchange form. If there is, submit your blog after linking to theirs.

You may also take part in other link exchanging programs.

Join Conversations

Most of my first visitors came to my blog because I left a comment on theirs. When you comment on a blog leave your blog address. Often people like to know who is reading their blog and will come visiting you. Readers of that blog will also pay a visit to your blog. But do not comment just for the sake of it. Make genuine comments that relate with the post. In the process you will not only get visitors to your blog but might also make friends.

Take part in Blog Top Sites

Submitting your blog to Blog Top Sites like topblogsites.net, blogtopsites.com and top100bloggers.com is another way to get more traffic. These networks make your blog easier to find and search for as well. After you sign up for an account on their website, you just need to copy a bit of code and paste it somewhere on your blog.

You can also take part in blog traffic exchange communities like BlogExplosion and BlogClicker.

To join these blog traffic exchange communities - visit the site, sign up, confirm your account, add your blog to the member directory and then start visiting other member’s blogs.

Basically, you need to earn ‘credits’ in order to get blog traffic exposure. These credits are often gained by visiting other member’s blogs. When you have enough credits, your blog becomes eligible for promotion. Usually, a link or graphic to your blog will be shown on the main site or in fellow member’s blogs. This is how other people find your blog.

Of course, the more members there are in the community, the more potential visitors. So, if you are part of a blog traffic community, it’s good to promote the communities you belong to as well. Besides, when you promote the community through a referral system, you get more credits too.

Tag Technorati

Technorati is one of the best traffic providers for bloggers. People find your blogs easily when people search by technorati tags. Technorati will rank your blog based on the number of links from other websites.The higher your rank the easier your blog is to find when people search for things.

If you do not have a Technorati account, signup here. After you have setup the main settings, such as your profile, you need to claim your blog.

Make good use of Technorati tags by tagging every keyword in each of your posts. If you use WordPress, I recommend Ultimate Tag Warrior (UTW) which makes tagging Technorati a lot easier.

By tagging your post effectively you will get a lot of quality traffic to your blog.

How I Generate Traffic To My Blog - Part 1

There are many ways to generate traffic to your blog and I have mentioned plenty of them on my blog already, but what I plan on doing today is giving you a list of the methods I found work best. I have tried many different ways and some of them give short term results while others have given long term results. I think it is good to have a little bit of both so you get the maximum amount of traffic to your blog. So below I will split my traffic generation into two categories: short term and long term traffic generation results.

Short Term Traffic Generation:

Yahoo Answers - If you are interested in driving traffic quickly and easily this is a good one for you to try. What you do is you post answers or questions with links back to your website and write them in a way that interests readers to come visit your website. You will get hits right away but they usually don’t visit again after the question is gone.

Facebook - I would say that the links you put in your profile are short term. The reason that is is because all your friends will check out the new link to your blog / website when you first post it up because of the news feeds but then after that it will die down and you usually won’t get anymore new traffic.

Forums - Posting on forums can be a good way to get short term traffic to your blog. As long as you are posting useful information on the forums and have a good signature with links to your website you will usually get some decent traffic back to your blog. Usually a lot more traffic then some of ideas mentioned above but then again it is still only be short term traffic. However one of the other benefits of this type of traffic is the linkbacks to your website which can help raise your PageRank.

Blog Comments - This is pretty similar to forum posts. Basically you can get a bit of traffic to your blog / website but you are better off doing this to increase your linkbacks which in turn will hopefully increase your PageRank.

Link Exchange sites - Link exchange sites such as linkreferral will generate traffic to your blog as long as you are using them but once you stop so will the traffic. Most of the traffic generated with this method however is not very good traffic because people are just interested in getting more traffic to their own website. Since everyone has the same idea in mind no one really sticks around a website to see what it is about.

Twitter - As far as I can see so far this is a short term way of generating traffic to your blog. May be after getting a very large follower base you can get long term traffic from this but in the mean time you get hits every once and awhile from this.

Entre card - This is like linkrefferal in that it is basically a link exchange type program. You can advertise on other peoples blogs and they can advertise on your blog. It does generate traffic but majority of it is just traffic where people are interested in getting points so they can make more traffic. It is worth a shot to try but it might not be the best solution in the long run.

Social Networking - This is a awesome way to get a ton of traffic to your blog. If you can get to the front page of some networking websites you can see up to 50K unique visitors in a day! This traffic is awesome but it will not last forever and its not easy to get to the front page. I definitely recommend doing this step but don’t expect to see traffic for months and months after you post something on the website.

PPC Advertising - This is not something I have tried on this website but is something I have done with my full time job. PPC stands for Pay Per Click advertising and what that is is when you pay for each click you get on your advertising to go to your website. An example of this is Google Adwords where you see advertisements on the right of the search results. If you click on them the advertiser has to pay for each click on their advertisement. This is a very good way to get traffic fast to your website but it will cost you and you will only get it when you pay for it.

Long Term Traffic Generation (The Good Stuff!):

Search Engine traffic - This is really good traffic. If you can do a bunch of SEO on your blog/website and get a bunch of your pages ranked highly in search engines for key terms then you will get a lot of traffic to your website without a lot of work. This will always be constant traffic as long as you do not get banned from search engines. So just be careful not to employ black hat SEO techniques and you should be fine.

Article Directories - This is another way to get long term traffic to your blog. Once you have submitted enough quality articles to article directories you will constantly get traffic from them to your blog and it is good traffic because people are interested in what you have to say. So if possible try to always add more articles to article directories.

Link Exchanges - As long as the sites you are exchanging links with do not go under you can usually always get traffic from the links you have exchanged with other websites. There are rumors that Google doesn’t like this type of traffic generation but I think if you do a little bit of it it cannot hurt your website rank and will bring in some more traffic.

Link Baited Websites - There might be another term for this but this is what I want to call it. Basically what this is is websites that have linked to your website because they found it interesting and wanted to link to it. If you can write blog entries that are very interesting to users they will most likely link to it and refer to it in their website. This is great traffic because it is free and you don’t really need to work for it.

Banner Exchange - This is similar to link exchanges in that you exchange a banner with another website and there is a link on the banner. It is good for long term traffic as long as both websites stay up and active you can always send traffic to each others websites.

So that is it

For now this is the list of things I have tried so far to generate traffic to my blog. As mentioned in a lot of the paragraphs some of the traffic generated to the website is a lot better then other traffic but all of them are worth a shot. I would try some of them yourself and see what works best for you. And remember as long as you write quality content, lots of content, and do some SEO on your website you should get decent traffic from search engines.

I am sure most of you here all know what Google is. If you don’t I am not sure what planet you have been living on for the last 10 years. Google’s search engine can be used to find all your favorite websites and it can be very useful finding things you want to learn more about or get more information about. Below are a list of 15 awesome tricks you can do with the Google search to get the answers and information you want!

1. Google Calculator

How this works is your type an equation into the search field and it will give you the result. Example: 2*4 - 23*5 + 1000. After you type this in and click search or enter it will give you the result. You can do addition (+), subtraction (-), multiplication (*), division (/), to the power of (^), and square root of a number (sqrt).

2. Dictionary Definitions
You can get the definition of a word by typing “define:” followed by the word. Example: define: canucks. This will get you the definition of canucks.

3. Search for a specific title
Suppose you came across a website you thought was awesome but you forgot to bookmark the site and only remembered the title of it and wanted to find it again. Well you can search by title with Google to hopefully find that website a bit more easily. All you need to do is type “intitle: then the title”. By doing this you will only get results of websites with that line in the title.

4. Google Converter
This is a very useful one if you need to convert something from one unit to another unit quickly. All you need to do is type something like “5km in miles” and it will do the conversion for you. I also use it a lot for changing from Fahrenheit to Celsius (25F to C).

5. Compare Currencies
Google search engine has a built in currency converter so you can go from one currency to another. This is done by simply typing something like “1 USD in CAN” and press enter and it will do the conversion for you.

6. Weather Updates
If you want to know what the weather will be like in your area you can type something like “London weather” and it will give you the conditions in that area.

7. Search for specific file types
If you want to find a certain type of file on the Internet it is normally pretty difficult to find what you are looking for but with the use of Google search you can find file types a bit more easily. You can search for file types by doing something like “Guide to build a good website filetype:ppt”. That will look for files with that name and the file type of a powerpoint presentation.

8. Search on a particular website
If you want to search a particular website from Google you can do this by typing “hitch DVD site:www.amazon.com”. By typing in site: and then the website it will search that website for what you have type before site:.

9. Get the local time anywhere
Want to know the time in London now? You can do that by typing “what time is it London” in the search bar. You can also do it by typing “time (location)” without the quotes.

10. Remove unwanted search results
Have you ever wanted to search for something in particular but wanted to remove some of the search results? You can do this by type -something after the search term to remove it from the search results. Example: James Bond -movie. What that would do is remove the search results of James Bond that included the movie so you would find other things like news, books, etc.

11. Search for URLs
Want to search for a particular URL? You can do so by putting a “_, . , -” in between the words instead of a space. Example: What_are_you_talking_about. This would search for URLs that included those words.

12. Track Flight Status
Want to track a particular flight status? You can do that if you know the airline and flight number. You just need to type in the airline and the flight number to get the status. Example: British airways flight 5. This will bring you the results of this flight from this particular airline.

13. Search Google Groups by the subject line

Generating traffic to your blog can be a difficult task but with the help of EntreCard it is a little less difficult. The way EntreCard works it a little bit tricky at first so let me explain how it works. It is basically a traffic exchange type system where you advertise with your widget on your blog other peoples blog ads.

EntreCard Virtual Currency

Before I go into any detail on how EntreCard works you first need to understand how the virtual currency called EntreCard Credits, or “EC” for short works. You earn these EC in a variety of ways that do not cost you any money. With the EC that you earn, you can purchase advertisements on thousands of blogs, or shop for hundreds of products and services in EntreCard’s virtual marketplace.

How To Get Started

You can get started with the system by going to EntreCard.com. When you are signing up you are prompted to create a 125×125px ad or create a text ad for your blog. Once you have earned enough EC you can click on Campaign at the top and click on the Browser option at the top of the page. Find the blog you want to advertise with and click the Advertise button. What this will do is send that user a request that you want to advertise with your 125×125 ad on their blog. If they approve then for one whole day your ad will show on their blog and when people click on it you will get traffic to your blog.

You don’t actually need to remember that code - To make this process faster, use the Edit Page bookmarklet (drag to your browser bookmarks toolbar, and click when needed). Try it on this page now by simply placing the cursor on any text, deleting it or editing it. These edits are not permanent and limited to your browser window only. Refresh the page and its gone. Techzilo lists many such bookmarklets to modify webpages.

I checked that this code works on Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, and Safari. Although it is easy to edit any page by altering its html code, this real time editing is amazing. 10 Reasons Why People Hate Google AdSense

There are many reasons why people hate AdSense and most of them are quite silly. I've taken the top 10 reasons below, and discussed each of them individually.

Credit-performancing.

There are some valid concerns, definitely, but a few of them are just ridiculous.

10 - Poor email support / Poor support overall

This is a fair point - AdSense can and should do more in terms of tech support.

However, when you consider the sheer number of people who use AdSense and even if you place the percentage of people who need tech support generously low, that's still a lot of users.

I'd like to see the Google AdSense team do more (they've improved since last year, IMO), especially in replying to all email support queries within 12 hours. Impossible? Hardly.

9 - Google allows AdSense ads on scrapper sites

Google is in favor of using algorithms as far as possible to weed out the trash, and to their credit they've done a lot over at Blogspot to reduce the splog-effect.

But MFA-sites are NOT going to go away, and to combat the problem Google needs to do manual checks both at the point of application (maybe introduce minimum conditions for joining - such as site age, traffic, etc) and at any random time every 6 months (or 1 year).

To get the scrappers out of the system sites need to be checked manually - although this raises another nasty problem where personal bias on ads can mean the difference between a site being seen as heavily optimized and blatant spam.

But why are people crying about Google allowing ads on scrapper sites? How does this affect you?

8 - Smart Pricing

If you don't know what smart pricing it, read this article from Jennifer Slegg and then this followup by Loren Baker covering Google's response.

It's the way AdSense / AdWords works - deal with it.

7 - Doesn't pay enough

A problem of expectations and nothing to do with Google or Google AdSense.

AdSense is usually a function of traffic - if you have low traffic you might want to head the TLA way and push your PageRank up.

And if you sign up to AdSense expecting it to pay all your expenses, you'd better be prepared to put in the hard work to build up your site's traffic to that level.

Don't rely on just one source of income - and depending on your niche and site traffic, AdSense could be your worst or your best earner.

6 - Ugly ads

I disagree - but maybe that's because I've been using AdSense for so long. I do think that Google have done a decent job in how their their ads blend in well with content - and on the most part I'd blame the advertisers, not the ad network, for the quality of the ads and ad text.

5 - Don't allow arbitrage

Losely translates into:

Don't allow us to cheat by going against their TOS.

Boo hoo.

I'm all for arbitrage, but you have to make sure you don't get caught :)

4 - Dont allow banned accounts to be reinstated

Never had an account banned (touch wood) so I can't say much about this. If it really is a zero-tolerance policy then it's not necessarily a bad thing - although accounts that are wrongly banned for suspicious activity should be reactivated once the mistake is discovered. Google will only get better at detecting fraud though, so the number of false positives should decrease.

3 - They're everywhere

A testament to its simplicity and ease of use. Doesn't apply unless you hate Google, which is a whole different story.

2 - Poor targeting

Are you saying this relatively or objectively? Relative to other networks, AdSense is actually much better. And when it comes to depth of inventory, Google is usually ahead as well.

There are certain cases where relevant ads are not presented, but those cases are isolated and there's a fix for every one of them.

1 - It feeds the Google Borg

Yes, it does.

I can live with that, even if sometimes your earnings per click get slashed for no obvious reason and AdSense support or an optimization expert assigned to you does absolutely nothing to explain why this happens. It's annoying, but instead of complaining, you need to adapt, find alternatives and fix things on your end.

Goodbye AdSense Video Units!

Finally, Google has decided to remove it’s ‘Video Units’ from AdSense. According to an official blog post, the decision was taken after it was found to have lesser impact than expected. It means Video units, which used to show YouTube content, underperformed with AdSense and the result is retirement!

So, at the end of April 2009, this feature will be completely removed from the Google adsense program and after that any remaining video units on AdSense publisher’s web pages will either direct users to YouTube.com or start showing top YouTube videos. From those videos you are not going earn a cent. That’s why Google recommends removing those video unit codes from your web pages as soon as possible. What about your past earnings? Don’t worry your pending earnings will be credited to your AdSense account.

Personally I don’t like video ads, though it was a big hit for some people. The video units used to display two types of ads: companion ads, which appear in the player above the video content, or text overlay ads, which appears in bottom 20% of the video content when it is played. The idea was good.Make some money while entertaining your viewer. But, some people finds those ads annoying while viewing a video. They simply passes away, which ultimately may harm your income.

In my view, retiring video units was a good decision. Now you will get some exta ad space on your web pages, which you can optimize to display other ad units and make money online. Go and remove those video unit codes from your website or blog and find a suitable replacement for it. Initially you can try using other AdSense for Content ad formats.

Are your curious to know who some of the biggest Google Adsense earners are? I know that I was interested to know who the best are so I could check out their websites and see how I could possibly earn as much money as these people do. I realized from most of these sites that sites with user generated content usually ranked pretty highly for Google Adsense earners. It seems that these “community” type sites do tend to get a lot of traffic and we all know that traffic = money. So without any more delay here are a list of the top 8 Google Adsense earners as collected from online resources. Please note that this list might be a bit outdated but it has lots of useful information still.

1: Markus Frind: PlentyOfFish.com - $300,000 per month

Markus Frind is a local Vancouverite who is turning the online dating world upside down. His site, Plentyoffish.com is the biggest free dating site on the Internet. Plentyoffish.com receives up to 500 million page views per month and make over $10,000 per day for Markus, who runs the site from home.

You think a site this big would be staffed by a hundred people but the only employee that Markus has is his girlfriend, who helps to answer the emails. Markus coded Plenty of Fish all by himself. The site is lean and mean and requires only four servers to handle all that traffic.

Doubts about Makus’s Google earnings were silenced when he posted this $900,000 check from Google. According to Markus’s blog entry, the check represented two months of AdSense earnings.

2: Kevin Rose: Digg.com - $250,000 per month

Kevin Rose started Digg in December of 2004 with just $1000. Today Digg is one of the biggest news sites on the Net, with over 400,000 members and over 200 million page views per month. According to this article from Business week, Digg will make $3 million this year from a combination of Google AdSense and Federated Media ads. Unfortunately, only Mr. Rose and his accountants knows how much came from Google and how much came from Federated Media. I can try to take a guess based on the number of times I have seen a Federated Media ad vs. a Google ad on Digg but, being in Canada, it’s almost 100% Google ads.

Whatever Google’s share of Digg’s $250,000 per month in ad revenues may be, one thing is for sure, it is not small.

3: Jeremy Schoemaker - $140,000 per month

If ever anyone can be considered an Internet marketing superstar, ShoeMoney would be near the top of the list. Jeremy Schoemaker is a search engine marketer who knows how to take advantage of both Google AdSense and AdWords. In the above photo, you see him with the biggest Google AdSense check he has ever received from Google. The income was earned back in the month of August 2005. Since then Mr. Schoemaker has moved to wire transfers. No doubt, he got tired to dealing with the bank tellers when trying to deposit $100K plus checks every month.

Unlike the other Google whores on this list, ShoeMoney, as he likes to be call, does not own just one site. He makes his enormous Google checks using hundreds of sites and thousands of domains.

4: Jason Calacanis: Weblogs, Inc. - $120,000 per month

Before Jason Calacanis sold Weblogs, Inc to AOL for $25 million, he got the network of blogs making over $4,000 a day from Google AdSense. So impressive was his AdSense performance that Google used Weblogs for a case study.

Now that AOL controls Weblogs, you can bet it is making a lot more than a measly $120,000 a month.

5: David Miles Jr. & Kato Leonard - $100,000 per month

According to this Washington Post article, David Miles Jr. and Kato Leonard, claims they make $100,000 a month from their site, Freeweblayouts.net, which gives away designs that people can use on MySpace.

The only problem with the revenue figure is it is not 100% AdSense. Free Web Layouts use other advertising networks in addition to Google. However, with a claimed $100,000 per month in revenues, I am fairly confident that the AdSense portion is higher than our next Google whore.

6: Tim Carter: AskTheBuilder.com - $30,000 per month

Tim Carter is a licensed master plumber and carpenter with his own radio show. He also makes frequent television appearances. He founded AsktheBuilder.com in 1995, The primary focus has been catering to an avid following of fellow builders on the site. According to the Google case study, Mr. Carter did such a good job tweaking the Google ads on his site that it now makes $30,000 a month.

Tim’s AdSense revenues now average $1400 a day and growing. Overall, Carter is enthusiastic about AdSense: it allows him to focus on content development, and gives him built-in tools to measure ad performance and make changes to maximize revenues. “People come to me for help,” says Carter. “They get what they need from my columns and advice - and also from ads delivered by AdSense.”

7: Joel Comm - $24,000 per month

Joel Comm is get rich quick guru. He wrote the best selling e-book, What Google Never Told You About Making Money with AdSense. The e-book, along with the website that promotes it has a screen shot of Mr. Comm AdSense earning from November 19, 2005 to December 15, 2005. Whether or not Mr. Comm still makes this much from Google is anybody’s guess.

8: Shawn Hogan – DigitalPoint.com $10,000 per month

Back in January of 2005 the New York Times had an article about AdSense, featuring Shawn Hogan, founder of DigitalPoint. The article states that Mr. Hogan makes $10,000 per month from Google AdSense using a very unique revenue sharing model.

Google pays Digital Point about $10,000 a month, depending on how many people view or click on those ads, said Shawn D. Hogan, the owner and chief technology officer of Digital Point.

Mr. Hogan said he started the revenue-sharing approach in 2004 “as kind of a marketing gimmick.”

“But everyone seemed to think it was a cool idea,” he said. “I saw a lot of other sites doing the same thing maybe six months later.”

DigitalPoint have grown a lot since that article and while Mr. Hogun would not say anything, the DigitalPoint forum members speculate that he is making at least twice that amount now.

IntelliTXT didn’t pay quite as good as Adsense, but the support is absolutely awesome. You’ll get an account representative who treats you with respect and genuinely cares about how your site is performing. It’s nice to know that if you have a question, you can simply contact your support representative. Adsense vs. IntelliTXT, great support, targeted ads, great service made this a hard call!

Adsense Alternative

I have always wanted to know what Adsense Alternative is out there, so I put together
this list of contextual advertising programs. I have tried each one of these alternatives and list
the amount that each program pays and what they look like when you’re logged in. The reason
I set out to join each program and do a comparative analysis is not because I am dissatisfied with Google’s Adsense,
but rather I didn’t feel comfortable having all my eggs in one basket. I have to tell you, after all my research,
Adsense is by far the stable advertising program on the net today with YPN Publisher Network paying the Highest.

You’ll notice a table at the top of this page listing each contextual advertiser
and associated results for 1000 clicks. The statistics, such as click through rate, clicks and earning per
click have all been based on actual figures, but can still be inaccurate.

Day of week, advertisers spending limits and more can cause these statistics to
change daily, even hourly. For me, they satisfy my desire to know what programs
other than adsense, are really out there.

Adsense is not listed as I am not permitted to display statistics, but I can
say that Google’s Adsense out performs the best of programs by at least
double.

I should also say that Vibrant Media is by far the most personable advertising program I have found yet. You’ll get a representative that works with you
every step of the way to get you up and running and that’s just the beginning!
